‘Tis the season for toy runs, charity rides and visits to those who deserve some extra care and attention. Every holiday season, the motorcycling community turns out in force to participate in events that define the season of giving. Here are some of the events our Why We Ride family shared with us.
Sandra Di Carlo Valdez participated in the Toys in the Sun Run 2014 in South Florida’s Broward County. The ride benefits Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Cancer Foundation. The ride was a huge success, and the local newspaper described the crowd as “tens of thousands of motorcycles.”
Scott “The Music Man” also participates in the Toys in the Sun Run, and he snapped an impressive shot of the long line of motorcycles cruising down a South Florida freeway.
On the same day that Florida riders were riding in the sunshine, Mike Sells was putting on some winter gear to participate in the 37th Annual Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade in Chicago. Despite the cold, an estimated 60,000 riders turned up for the great cause.
Every year, bikers gather for the Olympia Toy Run in Olympia, Washington. Dana Byles shared this video that shows the entire parade of motorcycles rolling past – an impressive sight!
Wes Farmer uploaded an album of photos from the Olympia Toy Run, and these two stood out as our favorites:
Paul Ricketts sent us this link to an article about the “Saintly Santas” in Exeter. The UK riders donned Santa costumes and delivered toys to young patients at the South West Children’s Hospice.
Barbara Carollo Ivy reminded us that at Christmas or any other season, it’s not just about the kids. The American Legion Riders of Jackson, Mississippi (Post 112) had a Christmas Party for the veterans on the nursing home floor at the VA Hospital in Jackson.
