Inspire. Educate. Celebrate. Everything Motorcycling. This is what Why We Ride is all about. Our Facebook page with over 220,000 likes is probably best known for its memes. According to Wikipedia: “A meme (/ˈmiːm/ meem)[1] is “an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture.”[2] A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.[3]” That’s why our motorcycle memes are popular, because they carry ideas, symbols and feelings that fellow motorcycle enthusiasts like to share.

When we launched the Create-a-Meme contest, we were pretty sure a few fans would take on the challenge to pair beautiful images with spot-on text or quotes. What we did not expect was the overwhelming response from our very creative followers and passionate motorcyclists all over the world.

The contest continues till November 1, 2014. Here are a few of our early standouts.

“Don’t limit your challenges…challenge your limits.” Submitted by Devin Pastrana Miles, who told us that the picture was taken 2 years after fracturing his neck in a bad motocross accident. Devin added: “Fortunately, I was able to walk again and continue my dream of riding till the end of time.”

“There is nothing like it in the world.” Submitted by Katie Rhodig, photo taken along Kenosha Pass in the rocky mountains of Colorado. She wrote: “There is nothing like taking a ride in these great mountains. I am still in awe of their strength & beauty each and every time we take a ride in them. There really is nothing like it in the world!”

“The best way to predict the future is to invent it.” Submitted by Ankur Gupta.

“We lose ourselves in the things we love. We find ourselves there, too.” Submitted by Kristin Martz

“I want to know what passion is. I want to feel something strongly.” – Aldous Huxley. Image submitted by Terry Reilly, who took the photo on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

“I ride because there’s nothing like in the world. It’s a passion. It’s something I absolutely have to do and I can never imagine not doing it.” – Alonzo Bodden in Why We Ride, the movie. Submitted by Kaj Åkesson from Sweden. He shared that his riding buddy happens to be his son Christopher, who took this photo of Kaj.
